Welcome to the discussion forum for the consultation on Local Petitions and Calls for Action. The consultation runs until 20th March 2008.
On this forum we are asking your views based on the questions posed in the consultation document, which you can find by following this link http://www.communities.gov.uk/publications/localgovernment/petitionscalls.
Our new questions, starting Tuesday 19th February 2008 until Monday 3rd March 2008, are about the new ‘Councillor Call for Action’. Through a councillor call for action any councillor will be able to refer a local matter affecting his or her ward or division to the appropriate overview and scrutiny committee of his or her authority. The committee must then put the matter on its agenda and discuss it at a meeting.
We would specifically like to hear your thoughts about what topics might be excluded from this process. Planning and licensing are some examples given because they already have well-defined systems in place but what other issues should we consider excluding?
Also raised is the question of what guidance should Government provide on the operation of the councillor call for actions?
We look forward to hearing your views however if you would prefer to submit your thoughts in a different format you can find information on how to do this by following the link above.
Over to you.
